Upper Macungie Township enforces the PA Uniform Construction Codes and all questions should be addressed to Building Code Officials.

NOTICE – Changes to the PA Building Codes

As the result of PA Act 36 of 2017, effective FEBRUARY 14, 2022, the PA UCC (Uniform Construction Code) has changed. This law adopted the 2018 Building Codes as the new minimum construction standards.

The most significant changes between the 2015 code & the 2018 code is the Blower Door Testing requirements.  The 2018 Energy Codes now requires the air leakage to be no more than 3 ACH50 (down from 5 ACH50 in the 2015 code) and the Residential Code updated Deck regulations and created a new Section (R507 in the IRC) listing the requirements.  (Many other code changes exist that are not specifically listed here.)

Any applications received on or after 2/14/22 will be reviewed, approved and inspected under the 2018 Codes. 

Many of the current permit guidance documents are based on the 2015 codes.  These guidance documents will be updated to the 2018 codes as time allows.  For specific questions, please contact the Township Permit Department.
