Attention residents who have not paid their refuse or sewer bills:
The Upper Macungie Township Board of Supervisors adopted Ordinance 2015 – 04 on June 23, 2015 authorizing the staff to turn over delinquent refuse and sewer accounts to an outside collection agency. If you have received notices from the Township that your account is delinquent, you are at risk of having your account sent to a collection agency. There will be additional fees and charges added to your balance if your account is sent to the collection agency. If you wish to bring your account up to date, please call 610-395-4892.

Sewer Lateral Inspection Requirements

An Ordinance is in place to protect homeowners when purchasing a home. This ordinance requires that before a property can be transferred, a sewer lateral video inspection by a plumber registered in UMT must be conducted. The Sewer Lateral Inspection Report must be completed by the plumber and submitted to UMT (2 weeks prior to settlement) in conjunction with a copy of the video. This does not apply to transfer of “new” construction properties; or properties that had an inspection on file with the township within the last three (3) years.

Sewer Allocation Information

Important: Rates have increased for 2024 (effective for 8/1/24 submissions). Contact Dana Heller with any questions.

Wastewater treatment allocation is issued by Upper Macungie Township (UMT) and Lehigh County Authority (LCA), with Lehigh County Authority having final approval. In order to meet LCA’s twice a month submittal deadline, completed applications and both LCA’s and UMT’s fees must be in Upper Macungie Township’s office by 4:00 p.m. on the 7th or 23rd of the month.

On-Lot Sewage Ordinance

This is a program to monitor the proper function of UMT owners’ on-lot sewage systems to protect our water table and overall environment. It is a staged program which is mandated by the PA Department of Environmental Protection and implemented by municipalities. In early February, District 3 property owners will be mailed a letter as a reminder to have their septic systems cleaned and inspected by a Registered Pumper/Hauler before December 31, 2024. In 2025, District 1 will receive the same reminder letter.

Scheduled maintenance of on-lot septic system helps reduce high costs incurred by property owners should their septic system fail, but ultimately protects and maintains a healthy environment for future generations. Click Here for a list of Registered Pumper/Hauler.
